On weekends, Río Claro receives many visitors. In addition to those staying at the reserve, many day visitors spend the afternoon at Río Claro. Don’t go on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday if you seek a peaceful commune with nature. If you visit the reserve midweek, you’ll most likely have the place practically to yourself, which is heavenly.

Támesis is a town and municipality in the Colombian department of Antioquia. Part of the subregion of Southwestern Antioquia. It was established in 1858. The local economy is based on agriculture.

The mountains in the area, including the Cerro de Cristo Rey mountain overlooking Támesis and a sacred mountain to the Indians, contain valuable mineral deposits. There are plans to develop these resources, but these plans have met local opposition. Some locals are against mining in general, whereas others are questioning the regulation of mining activities that is seen as protecting the multinational companies.

The first thing to do in Tamesis is climb the peak just behind the town and witness the impressive views of the town and valley below. To find the path, take Calle 13A from the town center and walk until the road ends and then keep going.

Jardín, a town in the mountains just four hours to the south of Medellin, preserves a colonial appearance that seems unchanged by the modern advances of this century.
